Charleston Window Boxes

Standard

We went into Charleston today to see the sights.  I have never been to Charleston and couldn’t wait to take a horse and carriage ride around the city.  It was just the girls today – my mom, 3 daughters, 2 nieces, 2 friends of my daughters and me.  If you have not been to Charleston – you are really missing something incredible.  This is such a beautiful city, with so much history.  The homes and gardens will just blow you away.

I think I was especially drawn to the flowers today since I just finished the book “The Language of Flowers” by Vanessa Diffenbaugh.  What a book!  It opened my eyes to the idea that every flower has a meaning and can make you feel an emotion that you might not have even known you were feeling.  There is also a great story woven in between the history of flowers of hardship and survival.

I thought I would share some of the window boxes that I experienced on my tour today and a couple extra that are amazing.  I love window boxes.  I like to think of them as jewelry on your house.  My eye is instantly drawn to a gorgeous window box – I just can’t help myself.

Loving the contrast of the hot pink and purple with the navy shutters.

There is iron gates and doors all over the city.  One is more beautiful than the next.  This window box is hanging from an iron door.  Doesn’t this just scream WELCOME!

I hope you can tell how the flowers on the sidewalk match the flowers in the window boxes.  Such a great look … wow!

The city is famous for their Crepe Myrtle’s.  For my friends not from the South – Crepe’s are very common for us.  They are a flowering tree with gorgeous trunks.  The trunks peel in the winter and can be anything from brown to red to lavender.  They are beautiful trees that almost look fake they are so perfect.  They are interesting in every season.  Oh and don’t forget the window box behind the trunks of the Crepe’s – love the black – classic!

This makes my heart go pitter-patter.

Oh my goodness … check out the different textures in this picture.  I just want to hug this house I love it so much.

Periwinkle …happy happy happy!

The white flowers give this box such Pow!

I think this was probably my favorite box of the day.  The colors are so earthy and soothing.  The matching planter was just the icing on the cake.

Honey … I’m Home ! Can you imagine coming home to this beauty everyday?

Check out the corals!  Corals and oranges are so huge right now.  These window boxes are just perfect!

Boxes on a fence … I love the way they break up the continuous line of black iron pickets.

Pink wave petunia’s are always so pretty in a window box.  I especially like the design of these boxes – especially the way the iron corbels sit against the cream wall.

Look how much these boxes stand out against the pure white wall.  I’m in love!

Ummmm…. Can you say “perfection”?  I am drooling … A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!

The flower offered of itself

And eloquently spoke

Of Gods

In languages of rainbows

Perfumes

And secret silence…
