Yoga + Me = Awkward and Ugly

Standard

This cartoon reminds me of when I tried to do Yoga. One of my dearest friends is an amazing yoga teacher. I convinced my inflexible, goofy self that I would be perfect for yoga. I talked my girlfriend into teaching me privately so I wouldn’t make a fool of myself in front of a group. I think she would agree (although she won’t admit it) that I was probably the worst yoga student she had ever taught. I could never stop making comments on how crazy I must look upside down and why do my legs jiggle so much when I move that way.  I continued to add a lot of other comments that were probably not appropriate for a calm yoga room.

She tried to keep reminding me to be peaceful and centered – hmmmm…. Does peaceful and centered include getting the giggles and asking how much longer do I have to lay like this?  It’s a good thing we are such close friends.

I really wanted to be that flexible, toned, peaceful and centered woman – just like my dear friend/teacher. I guess I will have to settle for jiggly, super inflexible and having uncontrollable thoughts that I blurt out at the most inopportune times.  I think I will try meditation next – yeah right … anyone rolling their eyes?

Hope your life is more peaceful yoga than loud talking yoga students that cause havoc!

About Missi @ havoc to heaven

I am the President and CEO of the Smith House (according to me). I am married and we have four teenagers all within 3 1/2 years of each other - including a set of twins. Let's just say I log more miles on my car then a NY taxi driver. I am one crazy, busy lady. But - I know that the kids will be off to college soon enough so I relish the craziness and take lots of Xanax (oops I mean baths). I love to see things that are in havoc turn into heaven on earth. I am a self taught designer who has a passion for paint colors, fabrics, vintage accessories and everything on Etsy and Pinterest! I hope you enjoy my blog. I will be showing all kinds of scenarios that have been taken from "Havoc to Heaven" - from remodeling, refinishing and maybe just starting from scratch!

  1. Yoga is not about bending like a pretzel, its about showing up on the mat and listening to our bodies. With our busy lives we ignore very important signals that alert us to what our bodies need. Yoga gives us the ability to reconnect body, mind and spirit. After years of teaching I still can’t bend like a pretzel, but now I can at least feel and hear the signals my body is telling me. I slow down when I use to push myself to the point of becoming sick. Give yourself 10 minutes a day, do yoga and feel the difference!!! And Missi was great at yoga, don’t let her tell you otherwise!!
